Officials from WI.Plat, Gaon Platform, ASSEMBBLE, Field Solution, and ENERZAi, who participated in the 2023 Smart City Expo, are strengthening their will to successfully enter the global market in Barcelona, Spain.

In the ‘AI Convergence Regional Specialized Industry Support Project’ hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA), the Daejeon Information and Culture Industry Promotion Agency (Director Eunhak Lee), which oversees the digital water industry in Daejeon, supported the booth participation of artificial intelligence (AI) development companies at the 2023 Smart City Expo (SCEWC) held in Barcelona, Spain from the 7th to the 9th.

The three-day event involved 1,106 companies from 140 countries around the world, including Samsung C&T in Korea, Saudi Arabia Aramco and Cisco in the U.S. At the world’s largest smart city exhibition with over 20,000 participants, over 600 experts discussed and came up with various strategies to solve various challenges facing cities around the world, including mobility, governance, sustainability, and inclusiveness.

Daejeon Information and Culture Industry Promotion Agency promoted the smart water management field among the 4th Industrial Revolution. AI-autonomized water infrastructure is digitized. Smart water management is used in all global water markets, including water supply and sewage, as well as seawater desalination and industrial ultrapure water. In order for this digital water technology to be used in the field, various sensors, measuring instruments, and automation facilities are essential. Here, technologies such as AI, Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, and Digital Twin are needed. Additionally, software-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions and platform-type businesses are also appearing.

Participation in the 2023 Smart City Expo exhibition booth was promoted as part of the AI convergence regional specialized industry support project. It supports domestic AI development companies related to the digital water industry to advance into the global market. The five companies that participated in this exhibition attracted the attention of overseas buyers by introducing AI convergence technology related to the digital water industry developed over the past two years.
Hong Seong-in, team leader of the Daejeon Information and Culture Industry Promotion Agency, who led the Daejeon area booth participation group in Barcelona, said, “AI convergence technology in the digital water industry is an area of interest to cities around the world that are pursuing smart city implementation.” He added, “Daejeon area water industry companies will continue to do so in the future.” “We will find various support measures so that they can have more opportunities to advance overseas,” he said.
